Chunks of chunk

Since my layout mojo has disappeared I'm taking part in loads of swaps and making mini books. Here are 7 out of 8 pages of the Chunky Mini Book Swap I'm currently taking part in.

The theme for the first page is "purple". I raided my stash for anything purple. I also decided to make a mini mini-book depicting all different things purple.

Below is a picture of the pages of the mini mini-book before I bound them together showing all cultural things that are purple (purple heart, the book "colour purple", the song "purple rain" and purple for royalty).

The next page is themed "cosmic". I used thick black mulberry paper as the base and covered it with a black net fabric with silver spots. I added some small embellies including the tiny spaceship that I cut out.

Below is an accordian type book depicting the 8 planets (since Pluto is no longer considered a planet). I looked up online the colours of the planets - I hope I got it as close as possible to accurate.

The next page is my own theme which is "children's songs". I chose my son's favourite song which is a Jewish song about the Sabbath day. My page depicts a traditional Sabbath table and on it is a mini prayer book in which I wrote the words to the song.

Next is themed "nature". I wanted to do something different than your typical trees and flowers, so I thought of wildlife. I used animal print papers and they actually feel furry and reptile-y to the touch. I used some of Tim Holtz's foliage and some animal print fastenater staples to finish it off.

This next page is themed "fairies" so I made a fairy garden. The starry embellies are stuck with repositionable glue dots so are removable for binding or playing with.

Next is themed "my house, my mess". I decided to use dust bunnies. I used grungepaper as the base and ran it through my cuttlebug to give it texture - I then grunged it up using distress inks and perfect pearls. Same with the bunnies and the sign. I added a little Mr Henry with a stop sign for a cute effect.

This seventh page is themed "butterflies". Again, I didn't want to just do flowers and butterflies so I layered the page with three different colours and textures of green and made a semicircle of flowers. I cut out some pictures of butterflies and folded them up to give a 3d effect.

All together now

Just a quickie post to show off the jigsaw puzzle as a whole.

I really like how it looks all together. I just hope the recipients like them too :)

I'm back

I was in Blackpool last week and the hotel I was staying at was "supposed" to have WiFi, but my laptop refused to co-operate. Other people in the hotel were having no trouble at all, but trust me not to be able to figure it out. I had a great time anyway - no computer meant more time to relax which was the whole point of going away in the first place. Silver linings and all that.

I figured, it's about time I uploaded the final three pieces of my jigsaw. I've sent it off so long ago that I've almost forgotten that I've done it. Wait - I said almost -lol!

Here they are:

The theme of this one was black/red/cream. Free interpretation.

Sweet little angels.

I found it...

... my mojo, that is. It's been ages since I did any layouts, which is a shame because I've got loads of "must scrap pictures". My mojo wasn't hiding under my bed - I checked. It must have been at the bottom of my laundry basket because I emptied it today (reminder: must fold large amounts of washing).
This layout was a good one to get me out of my funk. I knew straight away what paper I was going to use so I didn't spend hours choosing the "right" look and I more or less knew what I wanted to do so no shilly-shallying required. As a bonus it also fits the criteria for this weeks challenge on UKScrappers which required using Emerald green, bling, a poem and some movement (googly eyes).
Well here it is:

Eli simply loves it when I do this little piggy on his fingers. He comes and takes my hand and points his chubby little finger at me and expects me to play over and over and over again. But, that cute little smile and that adorable giggle more than makes up for the extreme boredom of repetition.

And Another Two

Thought it about time to add more pics of puzzle pieces.

The theme for this one is butterflies.

This theme is folk art. To be honest I was a bit stumped by this one but after some research and lots of questions I figured it out. Well, I hope so anyway.

Stand Up Guy

It's all very exciting in the Stein household at the moment. Those of you who know me also know that our little boy, Eli, aged 4, is disabled with severe developmental delays. He was born with Spina Bifida which means he has very weak lower limbs. At the moment his main method of getting around is crawling and he's getting loads of physio and the goal is to get him mobile by means of a walker.
Anyway - yesterday Eli pulled himself up to standing all by his little self. He only lasted a second but for Eli that is HUGE progress and we're thrilled to pieces.
Obviously, I realise that this momentous occasion is scrapworthy and yes, it will be done at some point, when I've located my mojo. Oddly enough it's only my layouts mojo that's been misplaced. In the meantime I'm keeping my crafting juices flowing with ATCs.
If you've seen my mojo lying around please send it back home. Or if you've inadvertently taken it, then please put it back - no judgement, no recriminations.
For now, I'm going to go to sleep and perhaps I'll find the missing mojo somewhere under my bed.

Two More

Here are another two pieces of my jigsaw

This is my piece and the theme is "vintage time".

The theme of this one is "myth and magic"

Sunday 3 May 2009

What a jolly holiday (shame about the ending).

Well, last week we (and by we I mean me, the other half and our son Eli) went away for the weekend with another couple friend of ours and their 18 month old daughter.
The weather was glorious throughout the weekend, we visited a little farm where Eli enjoyed petting the ponies and we had the good fortune to encounter a very proud peackock.

On Sunday afternoon we went down to the beach where Eli delighted in hiding his toes in the sand. All in all we had a great time .... until Eli threw up. We were just about to leave, I had given Eli a bath, dressed him in nice clean clothes and all our bags were packed and ready in the car. In walks Mr "Perfect Timing" and causes our little munchkin to projectile on his lovely clean self. Cue running to the car, getting clean clothes, changing now-not-so-lovely-smelling Eli. In the car he was fine, but then 15 minutes from home (and 2 minutes from our local hospital) he started spewing forth the entire contents of his stomach and then some. Considering our proximity to the hospital we took our very smelly mite to be checked over. Gastroenteritis said the doctor. You can look forward to a week of vomiting and diarrhea. Wahay!!! Eli's fine now.... as for me, I need another holiday.

Getting Jiggy

I signed up to the Artsy Fartsy Jigsaw swap on UK Scrappers and have finally sent it off to my swap host. There are nine pieces in total which I'll be uploading slowly. Here are the first two.

This piece is for a "by the water" theme.

This second piece is called "by the seaside".

Welcome

Welcome to my blog where I will be uploading some of my work. You can also have a peek at my gallery on UKScrappers. My user name there is materialgirl197.

I'm still using my training wheels when it comes to this whole blogging malarkey so I'll slowly be adding links and other bits as I familiarise myself with the system. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy your visit and I look forward to "seeing" you again.
